The AIMA - Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum store in Porto was vandalized in the early hours of last night, the institution revealed in a statement this Monday, indicating that an investigation by the PSP is underway.
PSP reports to the Public Prosecutor's Office the placement of posters announcing the closure of AIMA
The far-right Habeas Corpus group, led by former denialist judge Rui Fonseca e Castro, occupied one of the buildings of the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) in Porto, on Avenida de França, this morning, covering the façade with posters that read: “AIMA closed. Until the Portuguese have health, security, housing, employment, education.” According to the PSP, the facts were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office (MP) .
In the press release, AIMA points out that due to what happened this Monday, "it was not possible to provide customer service (around 60 appointments) and collect biometric data since, at the same time, there were failures in the light points and internet access".
"AIMA regrets these acts of vandalism that demonstrate practices that are not in line with democratic values and that, ultimately, harm internal security," the communication also reads.
Finally, the AIMA Board of Directors "publicly thanks its employees for all the commitment they have put into achieving their mission and ensures that it will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure that they can carry out their activities safely".
Lusa contacted the PSP to try to find out more details, but so far it has not been possible to obtain clarification.
