Associations and citizens launch an appeal in defense of the right to family reunification

In a public position signed by more than 160 associations, collectives and individuals from different areas of social intervention, the rejection of initiatives that restrict the right to family reunification of immigrants in Portugal is demanded.

A group of activists, associations and personalities from academia and politics have joined forces in an appeal addressed to political decision-makers and democratic institutions “to reject any initiative that aims to restrict the right to family reunification and reaffirm Portugal’s commitment to fundamental rights and a fair and inclusive society”.

Among the signatories are immigrant associations such as Casa do Brasil, feminist and anti-racist organizations, figures in the justice system such as retired judge Eurico Reis, former High Commissioner for Immigration and Ethnic Minorities José Leitão and former deputies Francisco Louçã, Romualda Fernandes, Maria Manuel Rola, Ana Couto, Jorge Falcato and Mário Tomé.
