Biometric boarding launched in Lisbon and Porto airports

Portuguese airports, including Lisbon and Porto, have introduced a new biometric boarding system, eliminating the need for passengers to present their passport and identification.

In the coming months, the biometric boarding system will expand to Faro, Madeira, and Ponta Delgada airports. Initially, passengers need to register through the Biometrics Experience application, available on IOS and Android, by taking a selfie and submitting their boarding pass, electronic passport, or Portuguese citizen card.

The system, supported by the European Union's NextGenerationEU program, aims to enhance the boarding process by providing a faster and more secure experience for passengers. Thierry Ligonnière, CEO of ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal, emphasizes that this technology ensures both comfort and data confidentiality for passengers. The investment value for this innovative boarding procedure has not been disclosed.
