Braga: PSD MP exposes barriers faced by immigrants in the Minho region

In Parliament, Joaquim Barbosa, PSD deputy elected by Braga , drew attention to problems that affect thousands of immigrants in Braga and in Portugal.

Among the obstacles highlighted are prolonged delays in renewing residence permits, difficulties in obtaining social security numbers without employment contracts and obstacles in opening bank accounts, complicating the regularization and integration of these citizens.

Speaking to media, Joaquim Barbosa highlighted the importance of immigrants contributing to the economy and the job market, but advocated urgent changes to bureaucracy which, according to him, hinders both integration and access to essential services.

He also called on the Government to “implement solutions that reduce delays, promote greater efficiency and guarantee decent living conditions”.

The parliamentarian acknowledged the good intentions of current humanitarian policies, but emphasized that “these need practical reinforcement, with greater agility and clarity in administrative processes”.

Furthermore, the deputy warned about the impact of barriers on the retention of foreign talent and the fulfillment of immigration goals for the country's sustainable growth.
