Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince is losing patience with Portugal. He can no longer hide his frustration with the level of bureaucracy in Portugal and elsewhere, and is threatening to stop investing there if things don't change.
These criticisms were made through a post on the social network X. The executive considers that Portugal has worsened significantly in recent years. A warning that our political leaders should take very seriously.
Bureaucracy, immigration and problems at the airport are some of the criticisms made by Matthew Prince
This outcry from Cloudflare's CEO is motivated by three things he considers to be the worst in Portugal: bureaucracy, immigration management and overcrowding at Lisbon airport. And he notes that since the company started investing here, these things have only gotten worse.
Cloudflare made its first investment in Portugal about six years ago. During this time, Matthew Prince has seen a steady decline in these aspects of the country and an abundance of unfulfilled promises.
Given this scenario, Prince issues a warning to all multinational companies considering investing in Portugal. The executive states that "they would be crazy to do so without government guarantees".
In his comments to this publication, Prince elaborates a little more on his opinion on the state of our country. He considers that the situation at Lisbon airport is chaotic, that the bureaucracy is suffocating and that he also raises concerns about licensing and immigration.
Cloudflare CEO still talks about many promises and little action
Discontent with things in Portugal has been building over the last few years. He reveals that he is "... fed up with people telling me that things will get better if we invest more, only for them to continue to get worse."
Without revealing what successive governments have promised them, the executive does not hide its frustration. It does reveal, however, that it was promised a lot if they hired more staff - something they did - but that none of these promises were fulfilled.
