It was a foretold outcome, since when the project was debated on Wednesday, the parties spoke out against it and harshly criticized Chega's proposal.
Chega's initiative to hold a referendum on the introduction of quotas for the entry of immigrants into the country was rejected this Friday, with all parties voting against, with the exception of the proponent.

The draft resolution presented by Chega proposed that a proposal to hold a referendum be presented to the President of the Republic.
The questions to be asked would be: “Do you agree that the Assembly of the Republic should define a maximum limit for granting residence permits to foreign citizens each year?” and “Do you agree that an immigration quota system should be implemented in Portugal, reviewed annually, guided by the country's overall economic interests and the needs of the labor market?”
During the voting period that took place this morning in the Assembly of the Republic, PSD, PS, IL, BE, PCP, Livre, CDS-PP and PAN opposed the proposal and left Chega alone in voting in favor.
At the end of the vote, applause was heard in the chamber from the parties that voted against.
