The Socialist Party (PS) of the opposition, and Chega, the far-right, said that they do not vote in favor of the confidence motion.
In check for receiving from private companies, Luís Montenegro is on a motion of confidence in Parliament, where, without a majority, the government can be overthrown
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has announced that the government is on a move to present a motion of confidence in Parliament, where there is no majority.
The motion proposal means that it will be up to the parties to decide in a vote whether the government continues or whether new elections will be called.
An unfavourable vote on the government could topple Montenegro in the wake of a scandal with his family business.
“We don’t want a political crisis, but it can be inevitable,” Montenegro said in a statement on Saturday.
Founded by it, which would have captured all clients, Spinumviva receives about 9,000 euros monthly from several companies for consulting and data protection services.
Solverde, a casino and hotel owner, pays 4,500 euros per month and is responsible for 30% of Spinumviva’s total turnover.
João Rui Ferreira, Secretary of State for Economy, is a family member of the owners of Solverde, a company in Espinho, city of Montenegro.
After the scandal erupted, Montenegro explained on Saturday that he left the company with his two sons, who were already partners, and removed the woman from society.
I urge the parties to declare that they consider themselves, with all these explanations, that the government continues to have full conditions to carry out its program. Without the answer, political clarification will require confirmation of these conditions in Parliament. And on the part of the government this will only happen with the presentation of a motion of confidence,” he said.
The Socialist Party (PS) of the opposition, and Chega, the far-right, said that they do not vote in favor of the confidence motion.
“I said in Parliament that if this government were to present a motion of confidence, obviously that I would be disapproved by the PS. And not only because of this case, which is sufficiently serious. We have very serious flaws at this moment in one of the most important areas of our life, which is health,” said the deputy and general secretary of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos.
The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) has declared that it will file a motion of censure in Parliament, which would not invalidate the presentation of a motion of confidence of the government.
If it resolves to dissolve the Parliament, another hypothesis, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, will do for the third time in three years.
