Green lane for labor immigration remains without requests a month and a half later

The protocol, a flagship of the Government's migration policy, provided for the issuance of visas within 20 days, but its implementation continues to be blocked by bureaucratic obstacles and a lack of clarity in procedures

A month and a half after signing the “green route” protocol that promised to speed up the hiring of foreign workers by large companies, the Government ends its term without having issued a single visa. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited by Público, the Directorate-General for Consular Affairs has not yet received formal requests, although it maintains informal contacts with the confederations.

Of the five signatory confederations, only the Farmers' Confederation (CAP) is monitoring six cases involving 150 agricultural workers, but none have been finalized. Tourism and Commerce say they have only received requests for information.

Despite the reinforcement of consulates in countries such as India, Brazil and Morocco, the process is hindered by legal and logistical doubts, such as the provision of decent housing for workers. The protocol, a flagship of the government's migration policy, provided for the issuance of visas within 20 days, but its implementation continues to be blocked by bureaucratic obstacles and a lack of clarity in the procedures.
