Immigrants are increasingly paying into Social Security . In 2024, they contributed five times more than they received. In the last three years, the amount they paid into Social Security has doubled.
In three years, contributions from foreigners in Portugal have increased by more than 150% and reached a record 3.6 billion euros . A segment of the population that represents only 10% of residents in the national territory but that still, in 2024, paid more than 12% of the total contributions made to social security.
