Instagram post spreads fake news about the call for immigrants with CPLP titles

The call has not yet started. The project has not even been approved by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

Misinformation is circulating on Instagram that immigrants with a title from the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) have started to be called by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA). One of the posts with the fake news has reached thousands of people.

Legally, the procedure cannot yet be carried out. The reason is that President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has not yet enacted the bill. Only after this signature and publication in the Official Gazette (DRE) will the Government be authorized to convene. DN Brasil also confirmed with a source from the mission structure that the convening has not yet begun.

The publication also disseminates incorrect information about how the procedure will be carried out, that the immigrant "must make an appointment in person at one of the AIMA stores" and that the appointment "must be made through the AIMA Contact Center".

When the call actually begins, the immigrant will not need to schedule the appointment by phone, but will instead receive an email with the date, time and location of the appointment. In other words, it will follow the same pattern as other appointments in the mission structure.
