New law published for improving services” for migrants in Portugal

A new law on immigrants, published today in the Diário da República, proposes several measures to facilitate the issuance of cards, family reunification, and other matters for immigrants and has been formalised into law. The details of which are available on the website of  Diário da República.

According to the regulatory decree published today, the newly established agency will be empowered to decide on its own the issuance of temporary cards to immigrants and to expeditiously process cases in line with the office's modern procedures. can handle

AIMA said in a statement that this change is a milestone to ease the hardships of immigrants. With this new regulatory order, it will be possible to make digital services available on the AIMA portal and fully automate appointments, fees, etc. It will also be extended to naval and family cases, and efforts will be made to minimise the manual procedures involved. Among the major initiatives is to digitise family appointments and facilitate online booking of appointments.

A separate department is being created to address the complaints of immigrants in Portugal, which will also include representatives of immigrants.
IMA will be linked to the government database so that it can access data related to immigrants at any time and does not have to depend on other institutions. Under this law, IMA will have access to immigrants' contracts, education matters, and tax matters in addition to their residential area councils.
