Agency for Migration releases a statement explaining how the process of renewal of residence permits expired from July 1 is being renewed. Holes in the system are tormenting immigrants.
Given the large volume of complaints by immigrants, which point out flaws in the system of renewal of expired residence permits, the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) decided to act. The agency admits, in a note, that access to the Portal das Renovações, launched a few days ago to serve foreigners with residence permits expired from July 1 of this year, is only working for those whose documents have lapsed this month. That is, the service will be released gradually. According to AIMA, "soonly, the Portal will be made available to holders of residence permits that lapse in August 2025."
AIMA also warns that the Portal for the renewal of residence permits "only works" for this service. "Any other request is not considered," warns the agency, which adds: "Requests for change of personal data (such as name, address, Tax Identification Number — INVIF, among others) must be submitted through the Contact Form, (clicking on the item) Change of Data."
In the case of immigrants whose residence permits have expired until the end of June, the renewal system is another. According to AIMA, holders of the expired documents are notified, via e-mail, by the Mission Structure in chronological order of the expiration date of the securities, that is, from February 2020 to 30 June 2025.
From the moment they receive the notification, immigrants must access the platform services.aima.gov.pt through the link indicated in the message to revalidate the access credentials. Once this is done, the next step is to ask, on the same platform, for the generation of the Single Billing Document (DUC) for payment of the required fees, which must occur within 10 working days.
AIMA informs that, after the validation of the account and the confirmation of payment, the immigrants will also receive, by e-mail, a proposal for scheduling for face-to-face care and collection of biometric data, if they are expired, as well as the passport. Immigrants must be up to date with the Social Security and the Tax Authority and with all the required documentation, regularized.
