Strike by SEF inspectors threatened to cause severe disturbances at airports over the Easter period.
The SEF Research and Inspection Career Union (SCIF/SEF) suspended this Thursday the first day of the strike scheduled until April 10 to await the decisions of the Council of Ministers on the restructuring of the service.
The president of SCIF/SEF, Acácio Pereira, told Lusa that the strike was suspended this Thursday, but that everything now depends on what is approved in the next few hours at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which has on its agenda the creation of the Portuguese Agency for Migration and Asylum (APMA), which will replace the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).
According to the union leader, who gave prior notice for a strike between the 6th and 10th of April, coinciding with the Easter period, one of the concerns has to do with the "transition diploma" of SEF workers to APMA and other State bodies.
The SEF inspectors' strike threatened to cause severe disturbances at airports over the Easter period.
At issue in the protest by the SEF inspectors is the integration of workers from the Foreigners and Borders Service into the Judiciary Police, the Institute of Registries and Notary (IRN) and the future APMA within the scope of the restructuring process of that body, whose union negotiations with the Government are still pending on the draft decree-law that regulates the transfer of employees.
Meanwhile, the Union of Employees of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SINSEF), which integrates employees with non-police functions, maintains the two-day strike that started on Wednesday, also related to the future integration of these employees in other State bodies. .
