Between 2021 and 2024, foreigners living in Portugal contributed 9.88 billion euros. Brazil is at the top of the list of contributors. It is the largest immigrant community in the country and in the last four years there have been more than 3 billion euros in discounts.
Over the last four years, Angolan, Indian and Nepalese immigrants have tripled the amount of their social security contributions. Brazilians are the ones who have contributed the most , with a value of over 3 billion euros.
At a time when public debate about the importance of immigration is rising, it is known that with more foreigners living in the country, more money is entering the social security coffers.
Between 2021 and 2024, foreigners living in Portugal contributed 9.88 billion euros.
Brazil is at the top of the list of taxpayers. It is the largest immigrant community in the country and in the last four years it has received more than 3 billion euros in discounts. From 2021 to last year, it went from 465 million to more than 1.3 billion.
But it is the Indians, Nepalese and Angolans who have almost tripled their discounts. The Indians reach 238 million, the Nepalese more than 150 million and the Angolans go from 38 to 128 million.
Cape Verde closes the top 5 , with a jump from 53 to 140 million in 4 years.
These figures from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security , show growth alongside the increase in the foreign population living within Portuguese borders .
A number that the Government has already said will be reviewed.
The latest official data released by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum indicate that 1 million 44 thousand and 600 immigrants will be living in Portugal in 2023. This is the number that the Government guarantees will be revised upwards in the coming weeks.
