There is a connection between Chega and groups like 1143 or Reconquista, says Miguel Sousa Tavares

The idea is simple: negotiate a referendum on immigration with a possible approval of the State Budget proposal for 2025, the most critical moment for Luís Montenegro's Government, which will have a decisive phase in testing its durability.

This simple idea came from Chega and André Ventura, who decided to launch this proposal, even knowing that it has to go through the President of the Republic and the Constitutional Court, two bodies that, for Miguel Sousa Tavares, will never approve such a measure.

The TVI commentator (from the same group as CNN Portugal) addressed, in his 5th Column section, this proposal, which he called "indecent", in addition to seeing it as "blackmail" by Chega to the Government.

"He does not approve the Budget based on its merits or demerits, he doesn't care about that. Now he wants a referendum on immigration. He remembered that, André Ventura's vacation led to this, a brilliant idea", he stated, guaranteeing that this is a proposal "worse than the Limiano cheese".

Miguel Sousa Tavares points out that it is not just one deputy, but a party made up of 50 deputies making the proposal.

"Chega appears here to be leaning on the extreme right-wing Nazi and neo-fascist 1143 and Reconquista", he reiterated, accusing André Ventura of "trying to imitate" what has already been done in Spain and England, countries that have problems that do not exist in Portugal.

As the TVI commentator notes, immigrants do not arrive in Portugal by boat, as happens in England, via the English Channel, in Spain, via the archipelagos, or even in Italy, in the famous Lampedusa, which is always immersed in the issue.

"All immigrants in Portugal are legal, they entered legally. They did not enter by jumping or by boat", he stressed, recalling that the new Government prevented expressions of interest.

Regarding the possibility of the referendum going ahead, Miguel Sousa Tavares said that the questions were poorly formulated, confessing that he hopes that this hypothesis never goes ahead.
